Volunteer at the Makeover!

Putting on an event the size of the Thoroughbred Makeover, on a non-profit’s budget, requires an army of volunteers. We had over 100 volunteers in 2018, and as we look forward to another great year in 2019, it will once again take a village. In other words… if you love OTTBs, we need your help!

If you’re interested in volunteering for the 2019 event, please fill out the form below. Make sure you’re also receiving our email newsletter, so we can keep you up to date on specific volunteer needs as we get closer to the event.

Volunteering FAQ:

Where and when is the 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover?

Volunteers are needed Oct. 2-5 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.

Why should I volunteer?

We consistently hear from our competitors and volunteers that the Makeover is unlike any other horse show they’ve attended. It’s a fun, supportive atmosphere, and we pride ourselves on having great volunteers who keep everything running smoothly. If you’re planning to attend as a spectator, or to support another competitor, consider volunteering during other disciplines. It’s also a great way to get a feel for how the Makeover works, if you’re considering competing down the line.

What kind of volunteering jobs are available?

All of the typical jobs that go along with a horse show: scribes, ring stewards, announcers,

ring crew, jump judges, scorers, runners, ticket-takers, and so on. If you have volunteered at an equestrian competition in the past, chances are good that we can put you to work in a similar capacity. We have plenty of volunteer positions that don’t require any special expertise, too… great for parents and significant others!

Can I volunteer on a particular day or during a particular time slot?

Yes! As we get closer to the competition, we’ll ask you about your availability, and will find a spot that works with your schedule.

Can I volunteer if I’m also competing?

Yes! We have many competitors who volunteer in the disciplines that run on a schedule different from their own.

What do you provide to volunteers?

A t-shirt, lunch (for all-day volunteers), and our undying gratitude.
